Autonom Digest: one daily article from the day’s news

Autonom Digest is a browser tool that scans the day’s news, groups related stories into sections, gives each section its own lens, and writes one daily analysis article in your voice from the source articles. You review it and export WordPress-ready HTML. It is an early version: more features will follow. No account, and you decide everything.

  • Sections, not a link list

The problem

Why do most daily news roundups fall flat?

They list headlines. Readers can get that anywhere, and so can a model.

A pile of items

Ten summaries in a row are a feed, not a piece of writing. Nothing connects them, so nothing is explained.

One angle, every day

Without a deliberate way of reading the facts, every section ends up as the same “here is what happened” paragraph.

Writing that sounds generated

Generic framing, inflated significance and tidy closing lines are the tells readers notice first. A voice description and your own edits are the fix.

Workflow

How does Autonom Digest work?

Seven steps work today. Each one is a checkpoint you control.

  1. Profile

Describe your publication by hand, or learn it from your website or a YouTube channel. Autonom derives topics and scan signals, and with an AI key it reads your latest posts to write a voice description (DNA) so the digest sounds like you. You can edit all of it.

  2. Feed

Scan publisher feeds and news search against your signals. An overview shows how many stories came in, from which outlets, how fresh they are, how many match each topic and how many are readable, with suggestions for what to change in your profile.

  3. Sections

Select the stories you want. The AI groups them into 2 to 8 sections, each with a title and a one-line thread. Move a story, merge or remove sections, reorder them and leave out anything that does not fit.

  4. Outline

Choose a headline from three options or write your own, set how the piece opens, and pick one lens per section. Reorder, switch sections off, and copy the outline as Markdown.

  5. Write

Each section is written from its own source articles, in your voice, through its lens. The draft is checked for numbers and names that are not in the sources and for phrasing that reads as machine-written, with one automatic rewrite if it finds problems. Edit anything and rewrite one section with a different lens.

  6. Review

Read the article as a reader will see it, with a checklist of anything still flagged. Confirm you have read it to unlock the export.

  7. Export

Copy WordPress-ready HTML with native blocks, a summary at the top and linked sources. Add charts built only from numbers the articles state. Pick one of six article styles, copy the stylesheet, and get an SEO title, meta description, slug, excerpt, tags, image alt text and a generated feature image (dot map of the places in the article).

Angles

What is a lens, and why does each section get one?

A lens is a way of reading the same facts. It never adds facts, it decides which question a section answers. The AI recommends one per section and you can change it.

What happened

A plain, vivid account of the facts.

The hidden layer

Incentives, infrastructure and who really decides.

Who benefits

Who gains, who pays and why it matters.

Second-order effects

What this sets in motion, reasoned from the facts and labelled as reasoning.

The contrarian reading

Where the common take may be incomplete.

A pattern from before

An earlier case that fits, used only when it is solid.

A seventh lens, what to watch, closes the article: signals that would confirm or break the reading.

Status

What works today, and what is next?

Autonom Digest is an early version. We say exactly which parts exist.

Works today

Plan, write and export the article

  • Publication profile from your website, a YouTube channel or by hand, with topics, signals and a voice description
  • Feed overview: stories, outlets, freshness, topic matches, readability
  • Readable-article check on every story you select
  • AI grouping into sections, fully editable
  • Headline options, an opening idea and a lens per section
  • A draft written from the source articles, checked for numbers and names that are not in them and for machine-sounding phrasing
  • A review screen with a checklist, and a confirmation before export
  • WordPress-ready HTML, SEO fields, a feature image and a social square
  • Charts and key figures, kept only when their numbers match a quote from the source
Honest limits

What it does not do

  • Check that a source article is true. It checks the draft against the articles, not the articles against the world.
  • Add stock photos or AI-generated pictures. The feature image is a generated dot map of the places in the article.
  • Publish anything for you. You paste the HTML into WordPress yourself.
  • Replace your judgment. You read and confirm the article before the export unlocks.
Privacy

Is my data and are my API keys private?

Autonom has no accounts and no database. Your profile, sections, outlines and API keys are stored in your browser only.

  • Stored locally: profile, sections, outlines, settings and keys, in your browser’s storage and unencrypted, so use this on your own device.
  • Relayed, not stored: news search, article fetching and some AI provider calls pass through this website’s server, which forwards them and keeps only a short cache of public articles. Your keys and outlines are not saved on it.
  • Direct from your browser: YouTube lookups and several AI providers use your own keys.
  • You can verify it. Open DevTools, watch the Network tab, and see exactly where each request goes.

Autonom is not affiliated with YouTube or any model provider. Provider terms and usage costs depend on your own accounts and plans.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Autonom Digest?

Autonom Digest is a browser tool for planning one daily analysis article from many news stories. It scans publisher feeds against your publication profile, groups related stories into sections, lets you edit those sections, and proposes a headline, an opening idea and one lens per section. It writes each section from its source articles and checks the draft. It then lets you review the result and export it as WordPress-ready HTML with search fields and a feature image. It can also add charts built only from numbers the articles state. It is an early version.

What can it do today, and what is still coming?

Today: set up a publication profile, scan the news with an overview of what your profile pulls in, group the stories you select into sections, edit the sections, plan an outline with headline options and a lens for each section, and write the draft from the source articles with checks. Then review the article on a screen that shows what readers will see, and export it as WordPress-ready HTML with an SEO title, meta description, slug, excerpt, tags, image alt text and a 1200 by 630 feature image. Coming next: nothing is promised yet; we add features as the daily workflow shows what is missing.

What is a lens?

A lens is a way of reading the same facts: what happened, the hidden layer, who benefits, second-order effects, the contrarian reading, a pattern from before, or what to watch. A lens never adds facts. It decides which question a section answers, so a digest does not read as the same summary seven times.

How is a digest different from a news summary?

A summary shortens each story. A digest groups stories that share a thread, even loosely, into sections, and gives each section an angle. The result reads as one piece of analysis rather than a list of items.

Is Autonom Digest free?

The tool is free to use, needs no account and has no watermark. You bring your own API keys, so any cost comes from your plan with an AI provider. Check each provider’s current terms and limits.

Which AI providers does it work with?

Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, NVIDIA NIM, OpenAI and DeepSeek, with your own key. Autonom discovers the models your key can use instead of hardcoding names, and can fall back to another provider when one is rate limited. Without a key, the grouping falls back to a simple word-overlap method and the outline to a plain default.

Does it make up facts?

It is built not to. Each section is written only from the articles in that section, and the draft is checked afterwards: numbers that do not appear in the sources are flagged, as are names that do not appear in them. Stories that cannot be read are never used. These checks catch many errors but not all, and no tool can tell you whether an article itself is correct, so you stay the editor.

Do I need an account or to install anything?

No. It runs in a modern browser with no sign-up and no install. Your profile, sections, outlines and keys are stored in your own browser.

Is my data and are my API keys private?

Your profile, sections, outlines and keys are stored in your browser only, unencrypted, so use it on your own device. Some requests, such as news search, article fetching and a few provider calls, pass through this website’s server, which forwards them and keeps only a short cache of public articles. Your keys and outlines are not saved on it.

How is it different from Autonom Newsreel?

Autonom Newsreel turns individual stories into fact-checked YouTube Shorts. Autonom Digest combines many stories into one daily analysis article. They are separate tools with separate profiles and storage.

Why was a story marked as not readable?

Usually because the article is paywalled, blocked, a live page or only a link to an aggregator. Such stories cannot be used in a digest, so the feed hides them by default. You can show them to see what your profile is pulling in.

Can I use it for a daily post on my own site?

That is the intended use: one digest per day for your readers. Publishing is a separate step you control. The tool gives you WordPress-ready HTML and nothing is ever posted for you.
