Autonom Newsreel
AI news-to-Shorts generator: sourced scripts, captioned videos, one sitting.
Autonom learns your channel, scans live news, writes analytical Shorts scripts that are checked against the source article, and renders them into captioned videos with a free in-browser voice and stock footage. Every fact in a script is tied to a quote from the story it came from.

Topic Profile
Scan live news
Autonom reads publisher feeds (BBC, Al Jazeera, Guardian, DW, NPR, Sky, Euronews, CBC, NYT, WSJ) and searches aggregators (GDELT, Bing News, Google News) for stories matching your profile's signals. Stories marked "readable" can be turned into scripts; paywalled and headline-only stories are for topic discovery.
Searching…
Generate scripts
Each script is written only from readable source articles. Facts are extracted with exact quotes and checked against the article. Autonom then looks for a second outlet covering the same event and marks each fact as confirmed by both, single-source, or differing. Numbers, names and wording are checked, then every sentence is audited. Stories without a readable source are skipped, not guessed.
Composing…
Review and edit
Open a card to read the full script, fix anything, and mark it reviewed. Amber cards have something the checks could not confirm. Template cards were not written by the AI and are not fact-checked.
Make videos
Turn each script into a vertical short with a voice, captions and footage. Only the narration is used here. Title, description and tags are kept for the upload.
Export
Take your scripts, voice-overs, captions and videos anywhere. Autonom never uploads on your behalf.

Why most AI news Shorts fail
Generic “topic to script” generators are everywhere. They write fluently and verify nothing, and that is what gets channels ignored, corrected in the comments, or demonetized.
Invented facts
A language model asked to “write a Short about this headline” fills the gaps from memory: a wrong number, a made-up cause, a quote nobody said. One viral mistake costs more trust than a hundred videos earn.
Sameness at volume
YouTube’s inauthentic content policy targets repetitive, mass-produced videos with no original input. Template clones with swapped nouns are exactly what it describes.
Hours of assembly
Finding the story, reading it, writing, recording a voice, hunting footage, syncing captions, exporting. The work that should take minutes eats the day.
From headline to finished Short in six steps
The tool follows the order a good editor works in. Each step is a checkpoint you control.
- 1
Channel
Read your last public videos from YouTube, or define your channel by hand. Autonom derives topics, scan signals, tone and format. Keep a profile for each channel you run, each with its own topics, API keys, scripts and videos.
- 2
Feed
Scans publisher feeds and news search against your signals. Each story gets a match score and a virality score (hide paywalled and link-only stories with one switch) built from similar Shorts, coverage and freshness, and is marked readable or paywalled before you spend anything on it.
- 3
Generate
Pick stories and write. Autonom reads the full article, extracts facts with their quotes, checks them, then writes the script. Stories with no readable source are skipped, not guessed.
- 4
Review
Every script is a card. Open it, edit the hook or analysis, see its sources and checks, delete what you do not want, and undo if you slip.
- 5
Video
Choose a voice, and Autonom narrates each sentence, picks matching stock footage scene by scene, burns in synced captions and records the video, all in your browser.
- 6
Export
One ZIP with the video, audio, SRT captions, script, and a ready-to-paste title, description and tags. Upload to YouTube yourself, with the disclosure settings you choose.
How Autonom keeps scripts factual
Analysis is cheap. Verified facts are the product. These checks run before a script reaches you.
What it checks
- A readable source is required. No article, no script.
- Every fact carries a quote from the article, and the claim is compared with that quote.
- Numbers and names must appear in the source. Unsupported figures are removed.
- Second-outlet corroboration compares the same event across two publishers when one is available.
- Analysis is held to a stricter rule: no new numbers, no forecasts stated as fact, no absolutes like “always” or “never”.
- Paywalled story? Autonom searches open outlets for the same event and writes from that article instead, and says so on the card.
What it will not do
- Write from a headline alone.
- Present a paywalled article as read when it was not.
- Invent a quote, a statistic or a cause.
- Publish anything for you. You review, you upload.
- Guarantee that a source itself is right. Autonom checks that the script matches the article, not that the article is true. Corroboration helps, your judgment decides.
One sentence that states the event, not a teaser.
3 to 5 statements, each mapped to a quote from the article.
Why it matters, written without adding numbers or predictions.
A closing question that invites comments.
Same story, different Short
Sourcing and fact checks are fixed, so you can trust the base. Everything about the angle is yours to set, and the same story comes out differently each time.
Length: 30 to 105 seconds
Choose 30, 45, 60, 90 or 105 seconds. The script is written to land near it, with a tighter structure for short cuts.
Six analysis lenses
Read between the lines, contrarian, explain it simply, who gains and who loses, skeptic’s check, or what to watch next. Each follows the same strict rules on facts.
Three hook styles
Lead with the event, open with a question the facts answer, or open with an attributed contrast. Turn the analysis off for a plain explainer.
Pick what is worth making
Every story shows a virality score based on similar Shorts from the last 30 days, plus coverage and freshness. Add a YouTube key for real demand data, or use the estimate.
One profile per channel
Switch profiles in one click. Each keeps its own topics, API keys, scripts and videos, so channels never mix.
Video studio, built into the page
No separate editor and no render queue. The video is built in your browser from the script you approved.
Natural voice, no recording
A neural text-to-speech model runs on your own computer. Pick a voice and speed, and each sentence is spoken with exact timing so captions stay in sync. The first run downloads the voice model once, then your browser keeps it.
Footage that matches the script
The scene planner chooses what each moment needs, then searches Pixabay or Pexels with your key and picks the best clip. Where footage would mislead, it uses a clean text card instead. Credits go in the export.
Captions and a full package
Large, word-timed captions are burned in. The export ZIP includes the video, WAV audio, SRT file, script and upload details. Videos are kept in your browser until you delete them.
Good to know: video is recorded in real time, so a 60 second Short takes about a minute to render. Use a recent Chrome or Edge on a desktop for the best result.
Built for channels with a point of view
YouTube does not ban AI-assisted content. It targets repetitive, mass-produced uploads with no original input. Autonom is designed as an editor’s assistant, not a content farm.
Where it fits
- News, geopolitics, markets and tech commentary channels
- Newsletters and publishers adding a Shorts format
- Solo creators who want a few strong videos a day, not fifty weak ones
- Researchers and analysts who need a sourced summary quickly
How to stay on the right side
- Set your own angle in the channel profile and edit every script.
- Publish fewer, better videos. Quality beats volume.
- Use the AI disclosure setting in YouTube Studio where it applies, for example realistic synthetic imagery. Check YouTube’s current policy, it changes.
- Keep the source named in the description. The export includes it.
Your keys, your browser
Autonom has no accounts and no database. Your profile, scripts, videos and API keys are stored in this browser only.
- Stored locally: profile, scripts, finished videos, settings and keys (in your browser’s storage, unencrypted, so use this on your own device).
- Relayed, not stored: news search, article fetching, some AI provider calls and stock-footage downloads pass through this website’s server, which forwards them and keeps only a short cache of public articles. Your scripts and keys are not saved on it.
- Direct from your browser: YouTube lookups and several AI providers use your own keys.
- You can verify it. Open DevTools, watch the Network tab, and see exactly where each request goes.
Autonom is not affiliated with YouTube, Pixabay, Pexels or any model provider. Provider terms and usage costs depend on your own accounts and plans.
What you need to start

Coming soonFrequently asked questions
Is Autonom Newsreel free?
The tool is free to use and needs no account. You bring your own API keys, and what those providers charge, if anything, depends on your plan with them. Autonom does not add a fee or a watermark.
Does it make up facts?
It is built not to. Each fact is extracted with a quote from the article, compared against that quote, and checked for numbers and names that are missing from the source. If there is no readable article, the story is skipped. It cannot tell you whether the article itself is correct, so review each script before publishing.
Which AI models does it use?
Your choice of provider: Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, OpenAI or DeepSeek. Autonom discovers the models available to your key instead of hardcoding names, and falls back between them when one is rate limited.
Why was my story skipped?
Usually because the article is paywalled, blocked, or only an aggregator link. Autonom first searches open outlets for the same event and uses that article. If none is found, it skips the story rather than writing from the headline.
Is the voice good enough for YouTube?
The built-in neural voices are clear and natural enough for short news explainers, and several voices and speeds are available. They are not a human recording. If you prefer your own voice, export the script and SRT and record it yourself.
Where does the footage come from, and can I use it?
From Pixabay or Pexels through your own key. Both licenses generally allow free use in videos, with their own conditions, so check each provider’s terms. Credits are included in the export.
What does the virality score mean?
It estimates how much audience a topic already has. With a YouTube key, Autonom looks at the views of similar short videos from the last 30 days, then combines that with how many outlets cover the story, how fresh it is and how well it fits your channel. Without a key, you get an estimate from coverage, freshness and fit. It guides what to make first. It does not predict views.
Can I manage more than one channel?
Yes. Create a profile for each channel and switch between them in the settings panel. Each profile keeps its own topics, API keys, scripts and saved videos in your browser.
Why does the description end with a Made with Autonom Newsreel link?
It is one optional line that credits the tool. You can turn it off in the profiles and settings panel at any time.
Can it upload to YouTube for me?
Not today. You download the ZIP, upload the video, and paste the prepared title, description and tags. That keeps you in control of what is published and how it is disclosed.
Will YouTube demonetize AI-made Shorts?
YouTube’s policy targets repetitive, mass-produced content with no original input, not AI assistance as such. Channels that add their own angle, edit every script and publish at a human pace are the opposite of that. Policies change, so read YouTube’s current rules and use the AI disclosure setting where it applies.
Does it work on my phone?
You can review scripts on a phone, but the video studio downloads a voice model and renders in real time, so use a recent desktop Chrome or Edge for video.
Is my data private?
Your profile, scripts, videos and keys are stored in your own browser. Some requests are relayed by this website’s server to fetch news and articles, and to reach some AI and footage providers. Your scripts and keys are not stored on it.
Can I use it for languages other than English?
Scripts and voices are tuned for English today. Other languages are not supported yet.
